Common questions employers ask

Does offering dental benefits help with employee retention?
Offering dental benefits can help small businesses attract and retain employees by supporting overall health and financial well-being. Dental insurance is one of the most valued voluntary benefits, and employees often consider it a sign that an employer is invested in their long-term health. Access to preventive dental care can also reduce missed workdays and improve productivity.
How much does a dental plan cost per employee per month?
The cost of a small business dental plan depends on plan type, coverage level, and how much the employer chooses to contribute. Many employers find dental benefits to be a cost effective option compared to medical insurance, with flexible contribution options that fit a range of budgets. Learn more about the true cost of dental for businesses.
What do Delta Dental of Washington’s small business dental plans actually cover (preventive, basic, major, cosmetic)?
Delta Dental of Washington’s small business dental plans typically cover a wide range of services, including:
  • Preventive care, such as cleanings, exams, and x-rays
  • Basic services, such as fillings and simple extractions
  • Major services, such as crowns and root canals (coverage varies by plan)
Some plans may also include coverage or discounts for orthodontics or cosmetic procedures. Coverage levels and waiting periods vary by plan, so employers can choose the option that best meets their employees’ needs.
Is there a waiting period before employees can use their dental benefits?
Most Delta Dental of Washington small group dental plans do not require waiting periods, allowing employees to start using their benefits soon after coverage becomes effective. Preventive services like exams and cleanings are typically available right away, and many plans also provide immediate access to basic services.

Any exceptions are planspecific and clearly outlined at enrollment. Employers can review plan details in advance to understand exactly when different types of services are covered.
Can I choose how much I contribute to the dental plan as the employer?
Yes. Employers have flexibility in how much they contribute toward dental insurance premiums. Some small businesses choose to cover a percentage of the employee premium while offering dependent coverage as an optional addon. This flexibility makes it easier to balance affordability with competitive benefits.
After I submit the form, what happens next?
After you submit the form, you’ll have two options. You can explore and compare small business dental plans right away using our selfserve insurance menu, where you can review plan options, coverage details, and pricing online.

If you’d prefer personalized support, a Delta Dental of Washington representative can also connect with you to answer questions, confirm eligibility, and help guide you through next steps such as enrollment timelines and employer contribution options.
I have more than 99 employees, what dental options do I have?

* Rate guarantees are available for new small business dental groups with 2-99 enrolled employees. Exceptions may apply. Consult your sales representative for more information.
