How to Check the Status of Your Dental Claim



Understanding the status of your dental claims shouldn’t be complicated.

Below, we break down everything you need to know about claims – from what they are, to how they’re submitted and processed.

What Is A Claim?

When you visit the dentist, your service generates a bill. This bill is submitted to us as a claim.

Typically, your dentist will submit claims for you. Once the claim is processed, we send you a notice called an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). This will tell you how much your plan covered for any particular procedure. For more details about EOBs, see How to Read Your EOB.

If you still owe your dentist anything after we pay our share, your dentist will send you a bill directly.

How to Check the Status of a Claim

The easiest way to check the status of a claim is through MySmile®.

  1. 1. Log into your MySmile® account
  2. 2. When viewing your dashboard, click ‘Claims Status’
  1. 3. Click ‘See status’
  1. 4. If your plan covers more than one person, click the name of person you’re checking the claim status for.

How to Submit Your Own Claim

    If you visit an out-of-network dentist, you may need to file a claim on your own. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  2. 2. Click ‘Standard Claim Form’
