Seattle Storm

We are proud to partner with four-time WNBA champions the Seattle Storm to bring oral health education and raise awareness about career opportunities in the dental professions to local students! Through the team’s StormAcademy, Delta Dental brings its Dental Pathways Program curriculum to a whole new audience.

With this on-going partnership, dozens of young participants are introduced to career opportunities in the dental profession. Held at the Seattle Storm’s Championship Center, the program focuses on the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in dental professions – and why representation matters. Topics covered during this program include personal oral health education, the breadth of careers in the dental field and a hands-on dental instrument tutorial.

For many of the girls participating in StormAcademy, the Dental Pathways Program is their first introduction to all the career possibilities within the dental field. The interactive sessions, staffed by an all-Black female team of dental students and industry experts, help the girls have an experience that leaves them feeling inspired and empowered. Throughout the day the students also get a chance to hear from a panel of notable women in leadership positions including Arcora Foundation CEO Vanetta Abellatif and Seattle Storm owner Dawn Trudeau.

Another component of the partnership includes visits from the Delta Dental Tooth Fairy at the annual Kid’s Day game hosted each summer by the Seattle Storm at Climate Pledge Arena. Prior to the game the Tooth Fairy greets families, summer camps, and curious adults, and speaks about The Tooth Fairy Experience program and Delta Dental’s vision for a cavity-free Washington. The Tooth Fairy Experience travels throughout the state of Washington teaching children in kindergarten through second grade how to care for their oral health through three fun, and meaningful lessons.
