In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are spotlighting community partners who provide services to the Hispanic communities of Washington. Alimentando al Pueblo is a Burien-based nonprofit whose programs are rooted in a power sharing model with a goal to develop leadership within their community. They serve the Latine and Pueblos Originarios populations of South King County.
Alimentando al Pueblo sources and distributes cultural foods, organize celebrations that promote social connections and healing, and center Latinx art and traditions in every aspect of their work to cultivate joy, pride, and cultural preservation.
Roxana Pardo Garcia, executive director of Alimentando al Pueblo, shares more about their great work below:
How does your organization serve the community? Together, alongside our Community, we source and distribute cultural foods, organize celebrations that promote social connections and healing, and center Latine art and traditions in every aspect of our work to cultivate joy, pride, and cultural preservation.
What influenced you to start this organization? The pandemic and the disproportionate impact that covid was having on the Latine and Pueblos Originiarios populations of South King County. And a deep desire to ensure that in 7 generations, my community thrived.
What are you most proud of that the organization has done? We have been able to cultivate Community and JOY during times that have felt most isolating and traumatic.
