On Saturday, June 22 the Atlantic Street Center hosted its 23rd annual Juneteenth Celebration, marking another year of celebrating Black Excellence. Delta Dental of Washington was thrilled to show up and support the celebration.
Atlantic Street Center hosts this free, family-friendly event to create space for community organizations and local Black businesses to come together to celebrate Juneteenth. Black food vendors, musicians, and dynamic performances create a celebratory event for all!
Juneteenth acknowledges the day that the last enslaved people in the United States were notified of their freedom, 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation made it so. To many, Juneteenth is America’s second Independence Day.
Delta Dental of Washington provided free toothbrushes and water bottles, as well as stickers for kids. When people visited our table, they received a stamp (a tooth sticker, naturally!) in their event passport. By gathering stamps, attendees were entered to win a big community giveaway.
We also shared information about DentistLink, a resource created by the Arcora Foundation. DentistLink is a free referral service that connects people to dental care in their community, whether they are uninsured or insured, including Apple Health (Medicaid).
It was a fun and festive day, and we are grateful for community partners like Atlantic Street Center!
By celebrating Juneteenth, Delta Dental of Washington pays tribute to the significant contributions of many Black people. Although progress has been made, there is still much work left to do. The systemic barriers that exist in healthcare, including racism, are immense. We are committed to working diligently toward a future in which all people have access to good oral and overall health.
