While we don’t like to think about it, dental emergencies can happen anywhere – even while on vacation. Fortunately, most Delta Dental plans work anywhere in the United States.
What’s a dental emergency?
A dental emergency is any dental problem that requires immediate treatment to save a tooth, stop bleeding, or alleviate severe pain. A dental emergency also includes any infection or abscess because they can be life-threatening when left untreated.

How do I find a Delta Dental network dentist in another state?
When you’re travelling in the United States, you may visit any licensed dentist for emergency care, regardless of your plan. We encourage you to seek care from an in-network dentist whenever possible. They provide services at discounted rates and file all claims paperwork for you.
If you seek emergency treatment from an out-of-network dentist, you are responsible for paying any dental costs above our allowed fees for that service. You’re also responsible for making sure they complete and send your claim forms to us.
Fortunately, we’re a member of the Delta Dental Plans Association. So, you get access to Delta Dental network dentists across the country, which includes more than 80% of our nation’s dentists.

What happens at the out-of-state dentist’s office?
When visiting a Delta Dental network dentist in another state, let them know you’re covered by Delta Dental of Washington and present your member ID card.
Your plan’s payment will be based upon the dentist’s agreed upon fee for their state. Your out-of-pocket cost share will be the difference between the dentist’s agreed upon fee and our payment.
