Unleash the power of good oral health with Mighty Mouth! It’s a new campaign brought to you by the Washington Dental Service Foundation to help Washingtonians understand the connection between overall and oral health.
The Washington Dental Service Foundation (a non-profit funded by Delta Dental of Washington) launched the campaign late last year “to unleash the power” of oral health. The Mighty Mouth website provides tools and tips on how to keep both your body and mouth healthy.
For better oral and overall health, start with these tips:
- Floss every day: You’ll prevent infections, bad breath and help you look younger. Who can argue with that?
- Brush longer, not harder: Take your time when you brush your teeth. Brush two times a day for at least two minutes. But be gentle. Excessive, hard brushing can irritate your gums.
- Get an oral health checkup at least once a year. Your dentist (and maybe even your doctor) will examine you and talk about the importance of oral health. Physicians are now making the connection between oral and overall health too.
- Don’t graze all day long. The less time food and sugary drinks stick to your teeth, the better. Starches and sweets contribute to bacteria and acids in your mouth, which can lead to cavities. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water after snacking!
When it comes to oral health, how do you think you’re doing? Take the Mighty Mouth quizto find out how you compare to other Washington state residents.
