Nationally recognized program connects Medicaid-enrolled children with dental care

While the alphabet song may come to mind first when hearing the letters A-B-C-D, for Arcora Foundation and other community partners it means Access to Baby and Child Dentistry, the ABCD Program for short, which the Arcora Foundation has invested more than $6 million and tens of thousands of staff hours, since its inception.

For more than 20 years, the program has connected Washington State’s Medicaid-enrolled children under six years old with dental care in their communities.

Thanks to the ABCD Program, 55 percent of Medicaid children under six have accessed dental care – making Washington a national leader in the percentage of these young children receiving care. Because of this success, the program has been replicated nationally; named a best practice by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry; called by Pew’s Center on the States a proven strategy that can help policymakers deliver a strong return on taxpayers’ investment; and recognized by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Children’s Defense Fund, and other organizations.
