Community Water Fluoridation

Community Water Fluoridation

Research shows that fluoridated drinking water can decrease dental decay by up to 40 percent. Nearly 40 percent of Washington residents do not receive fluoridated water. Washington State ranks 34th in the nation in providing fluoridated water to its residents.

WDS Foundation strongly supports water fluoridation as one of the most effective preventive oral health measures available for all citizens. Since 1998, WDS Foundation has been working with community-based coalitions, policy makers and health care professionals to educate elected officials, business leaders and citizens on the proven health benefits of community water fluoridation. WDS Foundation also supports communities through capital grants for community water fluoridation systems.

Flouridated Water
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified fluoridation as one of the top ten public health achievements in the last 100 years.
Fouridated Water
You can find out if your water is optimally fluoridated by calling your local water supplier or the local/county/state health department. If your source is a private well, have the water tested by a certified laboratory to find out if your water is optimally fluoridated.
